User-based Mangrove Co-Management in Brazil. In: Conservation and Sustainable Use of Agricultural Biodiversity - a sourcebook

Abstract

Mangroves are tropical ecosystems at the border between land and sea. They are characterized by the mangrove tree but also have a diversity of other flora and fauna. There has been open access to the mangroves on the coast of Para', north Brazil, as in many other regions of the world with growing numbers of people, rising unemployment and market demand. The Braganca Peninsula is situated about 300 km southeast of the mouth of the Amazon River and covers 180km² of mangroves.
